From AI-curious to AI-critical

Sometimes I just decide to save the energy and use my own creativity muscles instead.

On AI

I have been interested in human-AI collaboration since 2020, and in 2021 I wrote my Master's thesis on creative practitioners' attitudes towards using AI in ideation.

My main interest was, and still is, how AI can improve the quality of outcomes compared with working without it. I am also curious about the long-term effects on human thinking. I also want to use AI smartly, responsibly, and sustainably – and I can admit that as an environmentalist, AI use is my biggest cognitive dissonance.

Great at being useful while having no clue

With a wide experience of different industries, I am a master of none – but I learn fast and retain difficult technical information.

My professional experience

Some examples of what I have done:

  • With hardly any understanding of the fundamentals of building automation, I drafted a wild concept for device configuration, then learned through testing and talking to the people who'd use it which parts were actually feasible. I'm confident I shipped a solution that lets users complete and verify configurations faster than before.
  • While designing an asynchronous dermatologist consultation service, I had a reason to believe users would have suspicions against digital healthcare, and I designed the flow and UX copy to strip away the users' doubts at every step of the process.
  • I tailor user research to provide actionable answers to the project's unique questions, avoiding boring boilerplate like Likert scales. Once, a survey respondent left an open comment saying they'd actually enjoyed answering my questions.

Environmentalist, feminist, and vegan

My carbon footprint is less than half the Finnish average, but still not small enough.

Whenever I am not solving design problems, I am probably hanging upside down. Or solving design problems while hanging upside down.

I am passionate about circus and aerial acrobatics, and train regularly on my apparatus of choice: aerial silks.
