Design meets circus: How creative problem-solving and experience-driven design elevated an aerial acrobatics performance

Experience-driven design / Problem-solving / Design process / Experience evaluation

In May 2022, I signed up to perform at Aerial Arts Showcase, an event for aerial acrobatics and pole dance enthusiasts held in Helsinki in November of the same year. I had never before performed as a soloist or created a choreography by myself. I decided to approach the process like any problem I face in my work as a designer, and to use creative design methods and principles of Experience-driven design to create an aerial acrobatics performance that would offer an experience to both myself and the audience.

Engaging the youth in municipal decision-making with e-participation

User testing / Prototype evaluation / Experience-driven design

Municipal decision-making has a big impact on our everyday lives, including those who are too young to vote. The youth’s voices should be heard too. We created a concept and a prototype for a mobile app called Parti that would allow the youth to express their opinions on municipal matters in a collaborative way and have a dialogue with city officials and councillors.

Better indoor navigation experiences for people with visual disabilities

User research

Our physical environment has been built for the sighted, by the sighted. People with visual disabilities have difficulties moving around independently, often being unable to find their destination. We designed a solution that could help people with visual disabilities navigate indoors in public spaces with the help of 3D audio instructions received through headphones.
